"Just before Christmas the following year [1969], a couple of young black fellows forced their way into the house and knocked her [my elderly grandmother] to the floor. They beat up on me [my elderly grandfather] and then robbed us. This has a terrible effect on her nerves. Mother began to go downhill after that a little at a time."
